Statens Serum Institut (SSI)

Denmark’s national public health institute responsible for disease surveillance, preparedness, and research. SSI plays a central role in DANMAP by collecting and analysing data on antimicrobial resistance and antimicrobial consumption in humans.

Role in AMR Surveillance

  • Collects clinical microbiology data for DANMAP
  • Provides antibiotic sales and consumption data (together with Danish Health Data Authority)
  • Conducts research on antimicrobial resistance patterns
  • Performs routine Whole-Genome Sequencing (WGS) for many pathogens
  • Collects prescription and sales data from public and private healthcare providers

Role in AMU Surveillance

  • Collects human AMU data from the Register of Medicinal Product Statistics at DHDA
  • Tracks prescription and sales data from both public and private healthcare providers

Key Relationships

  • Partners with DTU Food on DANMAP reporting
  • Collaborates with DHDA on antibiotic sales data
  • Part of the DK-Vet consortium (with Copenhagen University) for clinical isolates from sick animals
