Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL)
Finland’s national public health agency. THL has coordinated human AMR data collection since 1992 through the FiRe laboratories network. It compiles, interprets, and publishes annual Finres reports on antimicrobial resistance.
Role in AMR Surveillance
- Collects clinical microbiology laboratory data for FINRES
- Maintains and publishes the FiRe laboratories data (collaboration since 1992)
- Operates the National Infectious Disease Register (NIDR) - mandatory notification for 40 infectious diseases
- Contributes to animal surveillance of pathogenic, zoonotic, and indicator bacteria
- Provides open-access AMR database: sampo.thl.fi
